Registered Orthopedic Technologist ("ROT") Certification

The American Society of Orthopedic Professionals is now awarding the professional title, Registered Orthopedic Technologist, R.O.T., after completion of our new online examination and practical component.

This exam is focused on office-based orthopedic procedures. If you are doing casting & bracing, you should consider becoming a Registered Orthopedic Technologist. The exam is free to all ASOP members and is given online without loss of work time or travel expenses. The practical component can be taken at your office.

Upon joining ASOP, you will have one year to complete the exam. ASOP will provide you with a free, two-hundred page, orthopedic study guide.

Other good texts to study are
Practical Fracture Treatment by McRae, the Pocketbook of Orthopedics by McRae and Orthopedics: A Comprehensive Study Guide by Spivak, et al.  All these texts are sold at Amazon.com.

30 new questions from Dr. Augusto Sarmiento's new Fracture Casting & Bracing Manual and 3 DVD's have been added to the exam.  You can purchase this text from ASOP click here.

All new or uncertified members of ASOP must complete the exam and twelve (12) hours of continuing education (provided free by ASOP email) per year to remain a member.

The test can be taken over a few days if you wish. Or, you can complete the exam in one sitting. If you fail the exam you can retake it at no charge after waiting 30 days.

Having an organization where all members have passed a professional examination is an ASOP goal. This allows us to speak with a louder voice as we talk to state legislative representatives about licensure for Orthopedic Technologists. Without state licensure Orthopedic Technologists cannot advance within the ranks of allied medical professions. Your joining ASOP and becoming a Registered Orthopedic Technologist will help ensure your future career goals.
